Tourism

Land of the troubadours, of Montaigne and La Boétie, of Fénélon, of Eugène Le Roy, but also of André Maurois…, the department of the Dordogne extends over the plateaux of the Périgord.  The campsite “La Ferme de Perdigat” is ideally located close to the tourist sites.

Enchanting landscapes

The Dordogne rises to the east to form causses while to the west the relief drops towards the plains of Saintonge and Guyenne. It is crossed by the Bandiat, the Dronne, the Isle, the Auvézère, the Dordogne, the Vézère and the Dropt.
The Landais and Doube forests cover the west of the department. The Périgord thus offers a great variety of landscapes. The county seat of the department is Périgueux, and the three district capitals are Bergerac, Nontron, and Sarlat la canèda.

Prehistory and medieval history

Périgord is the richest department in France, after Paris, in historical monuments. The richness of its past, especially prehistoric (Lascaux, Les Eyzies de Tayac,…), and its gastronomic specialities make the Dordogne a tourist department. There are many fortresses to visit in the so-called “Valley of 1001 Castles”.
